3 Reasons You Should Have a Friend at Work

Having a friend at work can surprisingly be very impactful. Some people think they can show up to work and get the job done; however, if you have someone you can trust and talk to at work, it makes a huge difference! Here are some reasons why.

1. You are more engaged in your work

If you have a friend at work that you are constantly engaging with, you are also more likely to engage more in your work. Although it may not be noticeable, you are motivating each other and supporting each other in career decisions. If you do not have someone that you can trust and talk to every day, you are less likely to feel like you have a purpose in what you are doing.

Being more engaged in work will also help you have more of a work-life balance and deal with stress in a more positive way. Do you have a friend at work? Have you noticed you are more engaged when you have a friend?

2. Your mental health will improve

How do you feel when you don’t have friends in your work life? Have you ever felt like you physically and mentally feel better when you have someone to talk to at work? Having a friend at work will improve your mental health drastically. Being able to be authentic and speak your truth with someone that you trust at work will allow you to feel mentally satisfied and content. When waking up in the morning and knowing you will have that friend to support you throughout the day at work, you are more likely to be in a better mood from the start. This will also help you stay focused and mindful on tasks you complete throughout the work day.

3. You will have more fun!

Of course having a friend at work will make your work environment fun! Activities like eating lunch together, taking a walk around the building, or even spending time out after work can make your work life much more enjoyable. This is why having a friend at work is so important. If you enjoy your work life, you will more likely want to stay in your current role.

On the other hand, as a business owner it is important to ensure your employees are making connections because that will ensure you have a low turnover rate. Check out this article about why team building is important for your business and how it benefits the lives of your employees.
